The tour

What makes a great sailing tour---- blue skies, a nice breeze, dolphins leaping? For sure that helps, but we can’t control all those factors. What we can control is the boat, the guide, and the guest list. The weather and general conditions here are usually spectacular. But at Ashuma Sailing we know that the most important factor that can make or break a sailing tour is who is on the boat with you. Ashuma charters private only, so you control the ambiance, and the guest list. You pick your music, your volume, or no music. You can choose to just sail for the whole time, or anchor and swim in a beautiful cove. Snorkel for hours, or minutes (conditions permitting) it’s up to you. Bring your own snacks and drinks or let us take care of the details. This tour is your tour.

The Boat

Lots of people who take sailing tours are accustomed to a “catamaran” tour. Catamarans are great for tours because they have wide decks, don’t heel over, and have nets. Ashuma is a trimaran. (three hulls) We don’t heel over, we are even wider and we have more nets. Enough net space for everyone to stretch out and enjoy. We also have a large, shaded cockpit with comfortable cushions and backrests. Ashuma is close to the water, and here in Costa Rica it is warm water, so you can dangle your toes in the beautiful Pacific any time you want. Ashuma has been set up perfectly for day sailing. She is simple, clean, and easy to move around on and climb on and off.

The Guide

Neil Kahn has been sailing and guiding his entire life. He’s not old but he’s not young either. He’s a dual citizen who has made Costa Rica his home for the last 30 years. His love of sailing, the ocean, and just doing what he does, is infectious. If you like to chat Neil is all ears and eager to share his life with you and he knows when to just leave you to your own conversations and enjoyment of the beauty unfolding around, you.
